The only other thing I can think of right this minute, is the keyboard driver itself. Maybe if you removed the rest of the MediaSmart bits and started over - installing the Menu First, then the packages that go with in the MediaSmart menu. I've heard that the "Menu" likes to be "first" into the mix. Note that the solution is to deal with the volume OSD, but that Menu should allow your MS icons to show up when the MS button is pushed.

What caused it to stop working, did it stop after a Windows update or some software that you installed ? Or did you install a retail version of W7 and now you can't get it to work ? Make sure and restart as the instructions point out in the solution and both files must be saved to the desk top and ran from there, not from a temporary folder. It should not matter what versions os Media Smart applications you have, but you need at least one to get the menu to work. Go to this link and follow it's quirky instructions to the letter.
I need to see what's in there first, but in most cases after uninstalling the Menu It's empty. If it's not, right click on it to delete it and restart.Īlso at this point the file should be empty, if it's not, please take a screen shot of what's there. Next go back and find the HP Media Smart file from above, it should be gone. Uninstall all and any Media Smart Smart Menu's from program's and features and restart. Make a note where the HP Media Smart File is, that is where the Menu is that operates the Media Smart quick launch button that has stopped working on your machine.

This assumes you're running a 64 bit version, I am quite sure that all the dv8's were 64 bit. Next go to "Computer" click on that > Drive "C" > Program Files > Hewlett-Packard > HP Media Smart. It's just a cumbersome program that runs in the back ground that takes up resources. After you uninstall it, restart your machine. HP installs this on most machines as a blanket utility, but it's not needed here. It should work with an HP version of W7.įirst off uninstall the quick-launch button software, it's not needed on the dv8 or the HDX for that matter. I am running a retail version of W7 on my dv8 and this is what I did to get the buttons working. This works for the HDX series as well as the dv8 as they are the same machines when it comes to the hot key bezel at the top of the key board.
It also has a one-touch button that will take you directly to your Windows media center, you can see here on this little button. Now, this is all high-definition, high-res content, so it does take a minute to load up, but once you get there, it's easy to just scroll through all of your Library.

It's obviously, once you start a movie it's gonna stop your music, so we'll go back to the menu here. So, let's look at a trailer here of Bee Movie. Now, with the internet connection it will play you trailers that it has ready to go. Now, by going back to the three-dimensional menu here, you can also decide if you want to watch your own movies or movie trailers as well. Now, we've got some high-res images here, so it's gonna take a minute. You can see we can go here to photos and it will take all photos in your library on any Windows machine again and categorize them and you can just Tab them, load up. While it's playing, you can also go to the other functionalities by just pushing media here. You can see it will also give you album while you're watching your music. You can see here it will control your music, it will take your music from all of your Windows machine and you can just have it start to play. It runs on either an internet cable or on your family's Wi-Fi and all versions of 802.11. So, it's got its own HP-proprietary software to control all of your home media in your family.
